Milka Murdjeva
UWC Adriatic, 2011-2013
Hi!
My name is Milka, and I'm from Kavadarci, Macedonia's Tikvesh region. I've spent large chunks of my formative years in different places with different people, including Skopje, Italy, Vermont and New Jersey, and I was a student at UWC Adriatic from 2011 to 2013.
The chance to study abroad, in a place like a United World College, was both a wish and a goal -- I believed that experiences in a new environment could greatly contribute to anyone's character growth. Above all, the experience at UWC gave me a unique chance for exposure to a variety of cultures around the world, giving me a chance to meet, hang out with, and learn from peers from more than 150 countries across the globe.
Aside from UWC, my hobbies and interests changed with my mood, but there were always a few I could completely commit to: drawing, as well as logic games and programming - which may have influenced my future academic and career aspirations. Aside from strengthening my international understanding, UWC preparing me not only for life in different countries and as part of multicultural communities, but also for the academic success with I strove for because of the easy access to professors who were experts in their field, the small classes where every student could participate, ask questions, and discuss, and resources that allow for the in-depth understanding of the subjects we chose.
Before I went to UWC, I was convinced I want to study a specific subject, which changed several times over the course of the following few years after I allowed myself to experience more subjects that I hadn't had the opportunity to study in the same way, or at all, while I was in Macedonia. UWC was followed by 4 years at Middlebury College, where I double-majored in computer science and economics. I am currently working and living in New Jersey, and I hope to continue towards one of the Masters programs I am currently tracking.
In my free time, I love reading and listening to books, drawing, watching movies, discovering and listening to new music, playing team sports like basketball, tennis, volleyball and soccer. I'm also part of solo recreational sports, like sailing, mountaneering, skiing (of the Nordic variety, in which I had a chance to finish a 38-kilometer marathon, Gran Fondo Val Casies, while at UWC; and downhill, for which I was an instructor while at college) and I love travelling and experiencing new locations all over the world. I always love meeting new friends, sharing opinons and talking about the topics that inspire or interest us, so feel free to find me and contact me on social media or send me an email at murdjevam@gmail.com.
