Anita Dimova
Pearson UWC of the Pacific, 1986-1988
Hello, I am Anita and it is my pleasure to be part of the increasingly large group alumni of United World Colleges around the globe.
I studied in Lester B. Pearson College in Canada, as a representative of the Republic of Yugoslavia. At a time when there was no internet and our information and knowledge about the world was a lot more limited, the possibility to travel far away and meet peers from all parts of the world, and to live with all the temptation brought about by life at a United World College was both an incredible privilege and an unforgettable experience.
After finishing my high school education at the College, I returned home and continued with my studies at the Electro-technical Faculty at the St. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, where I graduated in 1993.
I started my work experience as an IT teacher in two high schools, but I quickly became part of the informatics department in the Ministry of Defense, and, since 1998, I've been part of the informatics technology sector at Komercijalna Banka in Skopje.
I'm married and a mom of two daughters.
Someone might ask: where is the spirit of the Colleges in this humble life story? And I would say that it's in every part of my life. It's present in my lifelong friendship with Ilka from Germany, my former roommate at the College, who's in love with Macedonia and teaches about it as an anthropology professor in Canada. It's present in my continued and active communication with my former co-years on social media. It's present in the values I pass down to my children. It's present in all my life decisions and beliefs, in the need to be a fighter for a just world and a world which unites differences.
